My name is Colleen Strickler and I am proud to be running to represent the Gray New Gloucester community, the area I was raised in, and where I have raised my kids. I’m a former small business owner, a member of the New Gloucester Public Library’s Board of Trustees, and a member of the New Gloucester Select Board.
I am running for office because I want to help solve problems important to the folks in my district. If I win the seat I will fight to make sure medical decisions stay between doctors and their patients, protect our access to healthcare, defend our public libraries, and make it easier to connect job seekers with employers. Unlike our current representation, I would have voted for legislation such as the Maine Equal Rights Amendment and the Maine Paid Family Leave Bill to help support and protect women and families.
Our district is fortunate enough to have large infrastructure projects (such as the Gray Village Transformation Project) requiring funding on both state and national levels. Having a strong advocate and representative is paramount in representing the interests of residents in those discussions & negotiations. I will be an active participant in all of these discussions to support smart growth that doesn’t sacrifice what makes our community unique.
I am not driven by partisan politics. My aim in Augusta is to serve as a mouthpiece for our community; to put the work and time in to make sure our unified voice is heard in the state house and all the way to Washington.

If I win the seat, I will work very hard to protect women’s reproductive rights, and healthcare rights in general. All medical decisions should be made between the patient and the Doctor alone without government interference.
I will also work to make healthcare more affordable - to make it a right, not a privilege. I will also hold Big Pharma to account to curb the constantly rising cost of prescription drugs, reducing state drug expenditures and putting money back in the pockets of Mainers.
As part of my professional life, I have had so many conversations with employers about how difficult it is to find good employees. I have also had job seekers share that they were applying for numerous jobs and never heard back from employers. Clearly, there is a widespread communication issue that I will do my best to try to remedy.
A 25 mile rail/trail has been proposed on the abandoned Berlin Subdivision corridor through Portland, Yarmouth, North Yarmouth, Pownal, New Gloucester and Auburn. The nearly 7 miles that would run through New Gloucester has been described as the most beautiful segment of the trail. The trail has been recommended by the Rail Use Advisory Committee but the Maine legislature still needs to authorize and fund the trail. This trail would be of huge economic, recreational, and public benefit to the towns of Gray and New Gloucester. This will likely come before the legislature in 2025 and if elected I will work to get it approved.
As a former member of the New Gloucester Public Library Board of Trustees, I have seen how hard our incredible librarians work to provide valued services to our community. Unfortunately, I have also seen how libraries are increasingly under pressure from budget cuts and calls for book bans. As your representative, I will fight to protect our right to intellectual freedom. This includes making sure our libraries are properly funded so they can continue serving as havens of learning and growth for those of all ages.
